How it Works

This post explains how we select which are fares are real cheap and worthy of bringing to your attention.

We track air fares on hundreds of routes as outlined in our coverage information.

We'll tell you when we find an air fare that is

A) the cheapest for the route and fare category, and
B) a drop in price of at least 10%, and
C) available for sale for at least 3 days.

Only airfares that meet all these conditions will be considered real cheap.

We'll also tell you if other airlines quickly match a real cheap air fare.

Fair air fare

Since airlines are sneaky with added charges, we use a fair air fare. We think the air fare should cover some basics as follows

  • taxes or surcharges that cannot be avoided (eg fuel surcharge), except for airport taxes collected at the airport
  • 20kg (44lbs) checked luggage allowance
  • payment online by credit card
  • food and drinks on medium and long flights (see below)

Our fair air fare is the published air fare plus any charges added on for the above. We have a list of the air fare add-ons used in calculating the fair air fare.

The routes where we allow for food & beverage charges are those with flights generally of 3 hours duration or longer.

How good is the sale really?

To bring your attention to the very best air fares, we use a scale based on the size of the drop in airfare.

10-19% deal
20-29% cheap
30-39% bargain
40-49% hot deal
50+% steal

Disclaimers

We may apply other filters in order to identify only the real cheap air fares.
For example, if a sale only offered 10 seats that would fail our easily able to be bought objective. We don't spell out these other filters because we don't want to give airlines any ideas on how to be sneaky.

Fares are based on information supplied to us.
We take no responsibility for errors and omissions, or for any subsequent changes made by airlines, or for any restrictions imposed by airlines.

We only post summaries of the real cheap air fares. For detailed fare rules and sale conditions please consult the relevant airline or your travel agent.
